Scholarship Guidelines

The competition was open to enrolled 12th grade students of Union High School.  Some of the criteria was the following:

  • An applicant must be enrolled in a 2 or 4-year college, university or trade program for the school year.
  • An applicant should have at least a 2.75 cumulative grade point average, on a 4.0 scale.
  • All applicants must submit an official high school transcript. (The Committee will consider a student’s participation in extracurricular activities, community service organizations, and athletic programs.)
  • Applicants must include two (2) letters of recommendation.  (Administrator, Counselor, Teacher or Non-Relative).

Applicant must write an essay based on one of the following options:

  • Option A: Devise a school curriculum to teach your fellow students the importance of teen dating violence education, and bullying education.
  • Option B: Define bullying, teen dating violence and domestic violence.  What are some ways to assist someone who you believe may be the victim of bullying, teen dating violence or domestic violence?
  • Option C: What are some of the warning signs in a relationship/friendship that may indicate a person is abusive or a bully? Do you believe abusive behaviors can be learned?
